Back at work

Work resumed on August 22 on the bridge on County Road L51 about 2.5 miles south of Ricketts. The bridge crosses the East Soldier River about a mile and a half north of Highway 141. A contractor error on the pilings on the north end of the bridge left the bridge unsafe for use after initial construction was nearly complete. A plan was developed to encase all the improperly-placed pilings in a beam of reinforced concrete that will allow the bridge to be opened to traffic; work on that effort is now underway. The contractor, Graves Construction, will pay for the additional work. Crawford County Engineer Paul Assman said he hopes the work will be completed by the beginning of October, but cautioned that delays are always possible.
