Monarch baseball team tags Atlantic for 11 runs

The Denison-Schleswig Monarch baseball team took an 11-1 home-field win over Atlantic on Thursday, May 23.

The Monarchs scored two runs in the second, five in the third, one in the fifth and three in the sixth. Atlantic’s run came in the third.

Cody Schulte pitched a two-hitter for the win. He struck out nine batters and walked five. Three pitchers shared duties for Atlantic. The Monarch batters tagged them for 10 hits. Six Monarch batters struck out and four walked.

Jake Fink and Schulte each got three hits for the Monarchs, Ryan Slechta got two hits, and Cole Kastner and Nash Langenfeld got one hit each.

Monarchs drop doubleheader to Glenwood

The Denison-Schleswig Monarchs dropped a pair of baseball games on the road in Glenwood on Tuesday.

Final score for the first game was 13-3. Glenwood advanced on a 5-3 lead with eight runs in the sixth inning.

The Monarchs scored one run in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the fifth. Runs were scored by Jake Fink, Owen Galvin and Roman Bygness.

Jake Fink, Galvin, Cole Kastner, Ty Fink and Ryan Slechta each had one hit. Camdyn Nemitz had two hits.

Nemitz pitched five innings. He was tagged for eight hits and eight runs. He struck out six and walked one. Sawyer Sonnichsen walked two and gave up five runs. Ryan Slechta gave up one hit.

Kellan Scott pitched five innings for Glenwood and got the win. He struck out three and walked three.

Glenwood won the second game 7-3.

The Monarchs scored two runs in the first and one in the fifth. Glenwood got two runs each in the first and second innings and three in the fifth.

The Monarchs had nine hits. Jake Fink and Cody Schulte each had two hits. With one hit each were Cole Kastner, Ryan Slechta, Camdyn Nemitz, Nash Langenfeld and Grayson Wilcox.

Owen Galvin pitched five innings and gave up eight hits. He struck out four and walked one. Cole Kastner pitched one inning; he gave up one hit and struck out one.
