Monarchs win doubleheader over Shenandoah

The Denison-Schleswig Monarchs took a pair of baseball games from Shenandoah on Monday.

The Monarchs won the first game 4-2, scoring two runs each in the first and fourth innings. Shenandoah scored twice in the fifth inning.

Jake Fink, Ty Fink and Camdyn Nemitz accounted for the Monarchs’ three hits.  Shenandoah had two hits.

Camdyn Nemitz pitched the win. He struck out five and walked one.

Two Monarchs struck out and three walked.

The Monarchs left six runners on base. Shenandoah left one runner on base.

In the second game, the Monarchs clipped Shenandoah 2-1.

The Monarchs scored one run in the first inning and one in the fifth. Shenandoah’s run was scored in the sixth inning.

The Monarchs were efficient, scoring their two runs on three hits, one each from Jake Fink, Cole Kastner and Ryan Slechta.

Shenandoah had seven hits and left eight runners on base. Denison-Schleswig left four runners on base.

Cole Kastner got the win. He struck out six and walked two. Owen Galvin pitched the last inning for the Monarchs, striking out one and walking one.

Logan Twyman struck out four Monarchs and walked two.

Monarch boys fall 6-4 to Lewis Central

On Tuesday, the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs tried to stage a comeback but lost to Lewis Central 6-4 in a game played at Iowa Western in Council Bluffs.

Lewis Central took the early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Monarchs and Lewis Central traded runs in the third inning. Lewis Central advanced its lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning, and both teams scored one run in the fifth. The Monarchs tagged Lewis Central for two runs in the sixth inning but didn’t score in the seventh.

The Monarchs got eight hits. Jake Fink had three, Ty Fink had two and Owen Galvin, Camdyn Nemitz and Linkin Beeck each had one.

Lewis Central tagged the Monarch pitchers for 11 hits. Cody Schulte started for the Monarchs and pitched two innings, walking one and striking out none. Galvin pitched four innings and struck out two and walked one. 

The Monarchs struck out four times and walked six times.


Monarch boys top Harlan 5-4

The Monarch boys scored five runs on nine hits to top Harlan 5-4 last week Friday at Harlan.

Harlan scored its runs on four hits.

Ty Fink, Cody Schulte and Camdyn Nemitz each got two hits. Jake Fink, Owen Galvin and Cole Kastner added one hit each.

Schulte pitched the win. He struck out two and walked four.

The Monarchs struck out three times and walked three times.
