Monarch girls top Creston, MVAOCOU in week’s action

The Denison-Schleswig Monarch girls came through with a big third quarter to top Creston 55-42 on Friday.

The win put the team’s record at 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Creston led 15-13 after the first quarter and 27-22 at the half. Then the Monarchs outscored Creston 21-10 in the third quarter to take a 43-37 lead and capped off the win with a 12-5 margin in the final period.

Kiana Schulz and Whitlee Auen each scored 20 points. Schulz added five rebounds, four assists and seven steals. Auen had seven rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Following are the stats for the other players.

Addison Inman: 5 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals

Samantha Chandler: 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal

Kamden Bruhn: 1 rebound

Claire Leinen: 2 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 2 steals

Mayah Slater: 5 points, six rebounds, 3 steals, 3 blocked shots

Gaby Cardenas: 3 points, 4 rebounds

In J.V. action, the Monarch girls topped Creston 47-22. Kamden Bruhn led the team in scoring with 11 points.

On Saturday, the Denison-Schleswig Monarch girls outscored MVAOCOU 14-6 in the fourth quarter to secure a 60-50 win in a home non-conference basketball game.

The Monarchs trailed 13-9 after the first quarter and gained a two-point lead at the half, 28-26. The Monarch girls maintained the two-point lead after both teams scored 18 points in the third quarter.

Kiana Schulz paced the Monarchs in scoring with 19 points. She grabbed 12 rebounds, had one assist, two steals and one blocked shot.

Whitlee Auen added 16 points, along with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Quinlan Bygness: 1 rebound

Addison Inman: 6 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals

Samantha Chandler: 9 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals

Claire Leinen: 3 rebounds, 4 assists

Mayah Slater: 7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot

Gaby Cardenas: 3 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal

In the J.V. game, Denison-Schleswig topped MVAOCOU 38-22. Kamden Bruhn led the team in scoring with 14.
