The Denison-Schleswig Monarch girls’ varsity scored one run in the third inning and two in the fifth but could not overcome Westwood’s four-run fourth inning in a softball game on Monday, May 20.

Westwood scored once in the bottom of the third and added another run in the bottom of the fifth to take the 6-3 victory.

Westwood scored its runs on six hits. The Monarchs had four hits.

Claire Leinen was on the mound for the Monarchs. She struck out nine batters and walked three. Alexis Benjamin was the pitcher for Westwood. She struck out six batters and walked three.

Hits for the Monarchs came from Norah Huebert, Gabby Cardenas and Ann Wessel. Huebert had one stolen base and Gardenas stole base two times.

Each team left six runners on base.
