Joleen, the daughter of Jurgen and Alice (Mesenbrink) Petersen, was born September 29, 1941, on a farm west of Schleswig.  She passed away at Gracewell in Denison, Iowa on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 17 days.

She was baptized September 27, 1942, and confirmed March 25, 1956, at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig.

Joleen attended Morgan # 4 and 5 country school west of Schleswig and graduated from Schleswig High School in 1959.  That same year she and her mother moved to Denison, where they made their home together until Alice went to the nursing home in August of 1987.  She was manager of the Pagel Insurance Agency and later Flickinger Insurance for 38 years, and for 3 years she worked for West Central Development as a Senior Aide.

On October 22, 1987, she was united in marriage to Willis A. Carstenson at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa.  They both enjoyed their fishing trips to the local ponds, lakes, and Minnesota.

Her favorite pastimes were reading, watching TV, shopping, cooking, and baking.

Joleen was preceded in death by her parents, two baby brothers, husband Willis A. Carstenson in 1998, three sisters, Mildred Rusch, Darlene Justice, and RubyAnn Beerman; three brothers-in-law, Glenn Beermann, Russel Justice, and Elmer Rusch.

Survivors include special friend Kris Rowedder, nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A 2:00 PM funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa.  Interment was held at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison, Iowa.

Pauley Jones Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
