Pirate treasure is inside the library

Photos By Gordon Wolf

An interactive pirate performance by Swords & Roses on the Norelius Community Library’s lawn Tuesday morning revealed to children that the true treasure is in the books inside the library. Pictured, Ryan Ferris-Hanson, as the captain, and Marie Romine, as the first mate, finally came to that conclusion through a series of scenes. Romine is the owner of Swords & Roses, which is based in St. Louis, Missouri.

A number of children were asked to volunteer to pretend to be parts of a pirate ship, including a bilge pump, sail and a capstan, the device that lowers and raises the anchor. The boy at the ship’s wheel got to be the captain.

Four boys who played the part of the capstan have a great time turning in circles to raise the pretend anchor.
