Community and church volunteer and public servant, Jeri Vogt passed away Friday, June 7, at age 68.

She will be remembered for her decades of service to the county treasurer’s office and for being the second woman ever to be elected to the county board of supervisors.

A Dow City native, Vogt graduated from high school on a Wednesday in May 1974 and the next Tuesday, the day after Memorial Day, started as a clerk in the treasurer’s office. She became second deputy in the office and then first deputy. In 2004 she became the interim county treasurer when the current treasurer decided to retire mid-term. Later that year, Vogt won the election to serve the remaining two terms of the office.

She was unchallenged for re-election in 2006, 2010 and 2014. In 2018 she decided to retire as county treasurer and ran and was elected to the county board of supervisors, where she served from January 2019 until December 2022.

On May 27 last year, the Dow City-Arion Alumni Committee presented Vogt with the Greyhound Award. The annual award is given to a person or persons who demonstrated outstanding contributions to the Dow City-Arion School, the alumni association, and/or the community. Among the reasons Vogt was selected for the award were her years of volunteering at the United Methodist Church in Dow City and her work with the alumni association, as well as her years as a public servant.
