Monarch boys get five wins in week’s time

 
 

The Denison-Schleswig Monarch baseball team went on a five-game winning streak June 18 through June 24.

Following are the results of the games.

June 18 

Nearly every Denison-Schleswig Monarch got a hit as they topped St. Albert’s baseball team 11-7.

The Monarchs collected 17 hits. Hits came from Jake Fink (5), Owen Galvin (3), Cole Kastner (2), Cody Schulte, Camdyn Nemitz, Ryan Slechta (2), Nash Langenfeld and Linkin Beeck (2). One of Jake Fink’s hits was a double.

After three innings, the Monarchs were down 5-1, and then they scored four runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth. St. Albert got its last two runs in the fourth inning.

Jake Fink stole base three times.

Jake Fink started on the mound and pitched two and two-thirds innings. He struck out two, walked five and allowed five runs and five hits. Owen Galvin pitched the remainder of the game and got the win. He struck out six and was tagged for two hits and two runs.

Five Monarch batters struck out and two walked.

June 20

Cole Kaster threw a three-hit shutout to help the Monarchs win a defensive 1-0 battle against Lewis Central.

Kastner struck out five batters and walked one. Lewis Central’s pitchers struck out seven Monarchs and walked three.

The Monarch’s four hits came from Jake Fink, Cody Schulte and Camdyn Nemitz (2).  One of Nemitz’s hits was a double. Nemitz also had a sacrifice bunt and Ryan Slechta hit a sacrifice fly.

Jake Fink stole two bases.

Four Monarch batters were hit by pitches. 

Schulte scored Denison-Schleswig’s run.

June 21

A six-run first inning propelled the Monarch baseball team to a 10-0 shutout of MVAOCOU.

Cody Schulte was on the mound for the Monarchs. He struck out five, walked two and gave up three hits.

No Monarch batter was struck out and four walked, while they tagged the MVAOCOU pitchers for 12 hits.

The Monarchs’ hits came from Jake Fink, Camdyn Nemitz (2), Cole Kastner, Ty Fink (3), Schulte, Ryan Slechta (2), Nash Langenfeld and Linkin Beeck.

Nemitz, Slechta and Ty Fink all hit doubles.

Bases were stolen by Roman Bygness, Langenfeld, Beeck and Jake Fink (2).

Runs were scored by Jake Fink (2), Nemitz (2), Kastner, Ty Fink (2), Slechta, Langenfeld and Bygness.

The game ended after four and one-half innings. Along with the six runs in the first inning, the Monarchs scored one in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth.

June 24

The Monarch boys’ baseball team took a pair of games from Red Oak at Denison.

In one game, Denison-Schleswig held Red Oak scoreless in the final four innings and won 7-3.

The Monarchs scored four runs in the first inning, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. Red Oak scored one run in the first inning and two in the third.

Denison-Schleswig tagged the Red Oak pitchers for six hits from the bats of Owen Galvin, Cole Kastner (2), Cody Schulte, Camdyn Nemitz and Ryan Slechta.

Schulte and Kastner both hit doubles.

Runs were scored by Jake Fink, Schulte (2), Nemitz, Slechta, Trae Hartwig and Roman Bygness.

Bases were stolen by Nemitz, Slechta and Jake Fink (2).

Jake Fink also had a sacrifice bunt.

Nemitz pitched the distance for the Monarchs. He struck out five batters and walked two and was tagged for eight hits.

In the other game, the Monarchs held Red Oak to two runs on four hits while they scored eight runs on eight hits.

Denison-Schleswig stole base eight times in the game – one each by Roman Bygness, Owen Galvin, Cody Schulte, Ty Fink, Nash Langenfeld and Linkin Beeck and two by Camdyn Nemitz.

Hits came from Jake Fink, Galvin, Ty Fink, Schulte, Nemitz, Ryan Slechta, Langenfeld and Beeck. 

Schulte and Beeck both hit doubles.

Runs were scored by Jake Fink, Ty Fink, Schulte (2), Nemitz, Slechta, Beeck and Bygness.

Slechta and Cole Kastner both hit sacrifice flies.

Jake Fink pitched three innings; he struck out three and walked one and allowed three hits and two runs. Schulte pitched the remainder of the game; he struck out four batters and allowed one hit.

 
 

Monarch girls take four of five games

 
 

The Denison-Schleswig Monarch girls’ softball team collected four wins in five games from June 20 through June 24. 

Following are results of the games.

June 20

The Monarch girls came through with a game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to come out on top 4-3 over Lewis Central.

Lewis Central scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third and then the Monarchs held them scoreless the rest of the way.

The Monarchs got one run in the first and two in the fifth before scoring the game-winning run in the eighth.

The Monarchs’ hits came from Norah Huebert (2), Mayah Slater (2), Claire Leinen, Emily Gehlsen and Avery Bock.

Slater’s hits were a double and a home run. Huebert also hit a double and Leinen accounted for a home run to help her pitching effort.

Runs were scored by Huebert, Slater (2) and Leinen.

Bock had a sacrifice bunt and also stole a base.

On the mound, Leinen struck out 10 batters and walked four while allowing three hits.

June 21

The Denison-Schleswig girls’ softball team rang up seven runs on eight hits at Spencer to top the home team 7-2.

Claire Leinen struck out seven batters and walked four. She gave up six hits.

The Monarchs held Spencer scoreless until the fifth inning.

Runs were scored by Ann Wessel, Norah Huebert, Emily Gehlsen (2), Avery Bock, Rylan Ipsen and Malana Gillmor.

Hits came from Wessel, Huebert, Mayah Slater, Leinen (2), Gehlsen, Kamden Bruhn and Ipsen. Bruhn also hit a sacrifice bunt.

Bases were stolen by Huebert, Bock, Ipsen, Gillmor, Wessel and Bruhn.

June 22

In a softball game that started on June 18 and concluded on June 22, the Monarch girls were edge by St. Albert 4-3.

The game was tied at 3-3 after four innings and went scoreless for the next three and one-half innings, and then St. Albert scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Monarchs collected four hits and left six runners on base. Hits came from Mayah Slater, Claire Leinen (2) and Emily Gehlsen. Runs were scored by Ann Wessel, Gehlsen and Malana Gillmor.

Gehlsen stole one base.

St. Albert had eight hits and left seven runners stranded on base.

Leinen pitched three innings. She struck out three, walked three and was tagged for five hits and three runs. Norah Huebert pitched the remaining three and one-third innings. She struck out four, walked none and was tagged for three hits and one run.

Seven Monarch batters struck out and three walked.

June 24

The Denison-Schleswig girls’ softball team scored 25 runs in two victories over Red Oak.

The Monarchs shut out Red Oak 11-0 in one game that lasted five innings.

The Monarchs’ five hits came from Ann Wessel, Norah Huebert, Claire Leinen, Gracen Plagge and Grace Collins. 

Plagge and Leinen both hit doubles.

Runs were scored by Wessel (2), Huebert, Mayah Slater (2), Kamden Bruhn, Malana Gillmor, Gaby Cardenas, Plagge and Alejandra Cardenas (2).

Huebert and Plagge each stole a base.

Leinen struck out Red Oak 10 times in the five innings and allowed just one hit.

The Monarchs won the other game 14-3 in three innings.

Runs were scored by Ann Wessel (2), Norah Huebert (1), Mayah Slater (2), Malana Gillmor (2), Claire Leinen, Emily Gehlsen (2), Avery Bock, Kamden Bruhn, Gaby Cardenas and Rylan Ipsen.

Denison-Schleswig walked 13 times in the game and scored runs on three hits. Those came from Wessel, Gillmor and Leinen. Wessel hit a double.

Bases were stolen by Huebert and Ipsen.

Huebert struck out five in her pitching performance and allowed three hits and two runs.

 

 

Monarch boys, girls fall to Kuemper

 

Kuemper took a pair of games from the Monarchs on Tuesday at Denison-Schleswig’s home fields.

The girls’ softball team was shut out, 6-0. Their three hits came from Mayah Slater (2) and Gaby Cardenas. Both of Slater’s hits were doubles.

Claire Leinen pitched five and two-thirds inning. She struck out four, walked three and allowed eight hits. Norah Huebert came in for relief and struck out one batter.

Myli Schaefer with Kuemper struck the Monarchs out 10 times and walked three.

In the boys’ game, the Monarchs scored three runs on six hits but fell 7-3. Kuemper had 13 hits in the game. 

Monarch hits came from Jake Fink, Owen Galvin (3), Nash Langenfeld and Linkin Beeck. Runs were scored by Cole Kastner, Camdyn Nemitz and Langenfeld.

Galvin, Nemitz and Ryan Slechta each stole a base.

The Monarchs used three pitchers in the game. Kastner started and pitched four and two-thirds innings. He struck out two, walked two and was tagged for 11 hits. Galvin came in for one and two-thirds innings. He struck out three, walked one and was tagged for two hits. Sawyer Sonnichsen pitched the remaining two-thirds of an inning.
