Monarch girls clipped by MVAOCOU

A run in the top of the sixth inning was the difference in a defensive battle between the Monarch girls and MVAOCOU at Denison on Monday. The Monarchs scored one run in the fourth inning and the visitors scored once in the fourth inning and once in the sixth to take a 2-1 win.

Claire Leinen struck out eight batters, walked just one, and allowed only one hit. MVAOCOU’s Mya Goslar struck out two Monarchs and walked two while allowing six hits.

Hits for the Monarchs came from Ann Wessel, Norah Huebert (2), Mayah Slater, Leinen and Emily Gehlsen. Huebert, Slater and Wessel all hit doubles.

Huebert scored the run for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs left three runners on base and the visitors left six runners stranded.

 
 
 

Monarch girls one run short of St. Albert

All the scoring in a softball game Tuesday between Denison-Schleswig and St. Albert came in the later innings. The game was tied 6-6 after seven innings and then St. Albert scored the winning run in the bottom of the eight.

The Monarchs scored two runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and three in the seventh. St. Albert scored two runs each in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings and one in the eighth.

The Monarchs collected 13 hits. They came from Ann Wessel (3), Norah Huebert, Mayah Slater, Claire Leinen (3), Emily Gehlsen (2), Avery Bock (2), and Gaby Cardenas. 

One of Leinen’s hits was a double.

Runs were scored by Wessel (2), Slater, Gehlsen, Bock and Malana Gillmor.

Bock, Wessel and Cardenas all stole bases.

Leinen pitched seven innings for the Monarchs. She struck out nine and walked two and was tabbed for four hits and six runs. Huebert pitched one-third inning.

Twelve Monarchs struck out. The St. Albert pitchers allowed no walks.


Monarch girls fall to Atlantic in three innings

The Monarch girls had a tough time with Atlantic on Thursday, June 13, falling 11-0 in three innings.

Atlantic collected 11 hits in the game to two for the Monarchs from the bats of Ann Wessel and Claire Leinen. Leinen’s hit was a double.

Three Monarch batters were struck out by Atlantic pitcher Peyton McLaren. Norah Huebert and Leinen were on the mound for the Monarchs. Leinen struck out one batter, and both Monarch pitchers walked a batter.
