Monarch boys top Spencer 5-3 in baseball

 
 

The Denison-Schleswig Monarch boys’ varsity baseball team scored five runs on four hits and topped Spencer 5-3 in a home game on Monday, May 20.

Spencer had one hit. The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning.

The Monarchs scored once in the third, three times in the fifth and once in the sixth inning.

Camdyn Nemitz pitched the win for the Monarchs. He struck out four batters and walked five. Cody Schulte got the save; he pitched two innings, struck out three batters and walked none. Trenton Hallett and Isaac McCormick shared pitching duties for the Tigers. They struck out six Monarchs and walked five.

Ryan Slechta and Nemitz each had a hit for the Monarchs, and Cole Kastner got two hits. Linkin Beeck stole one base for the Monarchs.

 
 
 

Monarchs come from behind to defeat Storm Lake

The Monarchs scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on to deal Storm Lake a 7-6 loss at Storm Lake on Wednesday, May 15.

Denison-Schleswig and Storm Lake traded runs in the first inning, and then the Monarchs scored twice in the top of the second inning. Storm Lake came back with four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before the Monarchs answered with four runs in the seventh.

Cody Schulte started on the mound for the Monarchs and pitched three and one-third innings. He gave up eight hits and five runs while striking out three and walking two. Camdyn Nemitz pitched three and two-thirds innings and got the win. He gave up three hits, struck out two and walked three.

The Monarchs tagged the Storm Lake pitchers for six hits. Storm Lake’s pitchers struck out 12 Monarchs and walked seven.

Jake Fink, Ty Fink and Schulte each had one hit; Nemitz had three hits. 

Owen Galvin and Ty Fink each stole one base. Nemitz had two stolen bases and Jake Fink had five.

Storm Lake stranded 12 runners on base. Denison-Schleswig left eight runners on base.
