The Monarch girls scored 116 points and placed fourth at the Lo-Ma wrestling tournament on January 6.

Coach Jacob Brawner said the team had a tough quarterfinal round with only one match won, but seven of the 11 Monarchs were able to battle through the backside of the bracket and wrestle for a chance at fifth place.

Five of the seven girls - Alexa Tremblay, Taya Adams, Angie Rivera, Giana Garcia, and Taylor Totten - all placed fifth in their weight classes, the highest place they could get after losing in the quarter finals.

“The fourth-place team finish was a bit surprising, with Andrea Alcaraz being our highest individual placer at fourth,” said Brawner. “We never really talk about team scores throughout the day but when we looked up at the end, we were sitting in fourth. We'll certainly take it and it's a testament to our girls' relentlessness and mindsets.”

Other Monarch wrestlers that placed are Grace Collins, 6th; Kassandra Barroso, 6th; Addison Ransom, 7th; and Ana Castillo, 8th.
