June 12, 8:28 a.m.: The Denison Police Department investigated a two-vehicle accident that happened at the four-way stop intersection of Highway 59 and Arrowhead Road by Ampride.  Carolyn Jean Boeck, 69, of Denison, was driving a silver 2014 Chrysler Town & Country van and Randy Harold Segebart, 67, of Schleswig, was driving a white 2019 Dodge Caravan south on the highway, behind Boeck’s vehicle. Boeck said she was stopped behind a semi at the stop sign when Segebart’s vehicle hit the back of her vehicle. Segebart said he did not see the brake lights on Boeck’s vehicle due to the sun. Neither driver was injured. Three passengers were in the Segebart vehicle. The police report said that one of the passengers was transported to the hospital and the other two refused. The report also said that two of the three passengers were not wearing seat belts. Boeck’s vehicle received $850 damage to the rear middle and Segebart’s vehicle received $450 damage to the front middle. Segebart was cited for following vehicles entering a stop or yield intersection.

June 12, 8:43 p.m.: The Denison Police Department investigated a two-vehicle accident that happened at 1st Avenue North and 16th Street. Brad Raymond Hinners, 50, of Arcadia, was driving a blue 2016 Dodge RAM pickup east on 1st Avenue North and was stopped at the stop sign at 16th Street. Hinners stated he looked but did not see a blue 2011 Ford Escape traveling north on 16th Street, approaching the 1st Avenue North intersection. Hinners proceeded through the intersection, causing a collision with the other vehicle, which was being driven by Anselmo Emmanuel Marquez, 14, of Denison. No one was injured.  The Hinners vehicle received $1,500 damage to the rear passenger side and the Marquez vehicle received $3,000 damage to the front middle. 

June 13, 12:11 a.m.: The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office investigated an accident that occurred during a law-enforcement pursuit that ended in Aspinwall. Kyle Dean Rysavy, 25, of Jefferson, was driving a black 2008 Chevrolet Impala and was being pursued by a white 2021 Chevy Tahoe, a fully marked Carroll County patrol vehicle, being driven by Andrew Nicholas Smaldone, 37, of Carroll. Rysavy was driving his vehicle west on Highway 141 and was approaching Main Street in Aspinwall. The patrol vehicle was in pursuit with its emergency lights and siren activated. Rysavy slowed a little to turn north onto Main Street and turned wide, causing his vehicle to be over the center line. The patrol vehicle turned short and was in the right lane. Rysavy came back into the right lane as the patrol vehicle was next to him, and the right rear of Rysavy’s vehicle collided with the left front of the patrol vehicle. The patrol vehicle then collided again with the right front side of Rysavy’s vehicle, bringing the pursuit to a stop. Neither driver was injured. Both vehicles received disabling damage. Rysavy’s vehicle received $5,000 damage and the patrol vehicle received $12,000 damage. Online court documents show that Rysavy was charged with driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor; operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor; and speeding.

June 13, 7:24 a.m.: The Denison Police Department investigated a single-vehicle accident that happened on Arrowhead Road. Jeffrey Paul Wendt, 65, of Denison, was driving a red 2006 Dodge pickup and was pulling a camper, heading south on Arrowhead Road, when he struck a stop sign at the Highway 59 intersection. Wendt told the investigating officer that a malfunction with the camper’s brake system caused him to not completely stop before striking the sign. The sign had been bent backwards and the Department of Transportation (DOT) was notified. Wendt told the officer that he would call the DOT to pay for the damage to the stop sign. His pickup received $400 damage to the front passenger side corner and the stop sign received $200 damage. 

June 13, 6:35 p.m.: The Denison Police Department investigated a two-vehicle accident that happened at 18th Street and 1st Avenue North. Rubicelia Deanda, 29, of Denison, was driving a gray 2017 Nissan Altima west on 1st Avenue North and was coming to the intersection with 18th Street. Dyshawna Ranee Haberberger, 18, of Schleswig, was driving a black 2018 Ford Escape south on 18th Street at the same intersection. Neither driver saw the other. Deanda’s vehicle collided with the rear driver’s side of Haberberger’s vehicle. Neither driver reported injuries. Deanda’s vehicle received $10,000 damage to the front middle, was considered totaled and had to be towed. Haberberger’s vehicle received $7,500 damage, was considered totaled and also had to be towed.

June 14, 5:39 p.m.: The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle accident that happened near Manilla. Shelby County deputy Nathan David Tibbets, 32, of Harlan, was driving a white 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup and was in route to a call in Sac County. He was traveling north on 330th Street at a high rate of speed with the lights and sirens activated. He came up behind a green 2011 Chevrolet Silverado being driven by Christopher Aaron Greving, 46, of Manning. Tibbets went to pass Greving’s vehicle on the left side, and at that time Greving went to make a left turn into the driveway at 3355 330th Street. Greving admitted he had not been using his turn signal and also stated that he did not see or hear the sheriff’s department vehicle coming up behind him. Tibbets quickly took the ditch on the right to avoid hitting Greving’s vehicle, causing mechanical issues with his patrol truck, estimated at $1,500. No one was injured. Greving was cited for failure to give a continuous turn signal.

June 14, 9:50 p.m.: The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office investigated a vehicle vs. deer accident that happened on Highway 30. Vanessa Victoria Everett, 22, of Denison, was driving a white 2019 Kia Sorento east on Highway 30 near M Avenue. A deer entered the roadway and Everett was unable to avoid hitting it. The left front side of her vehicle struck the deer, causing $3,000 damage. The deer ran off. Everett elected to leave the vehicle along the side of the road until she could arrange to have it towed. It was leaking fluid and was not able to be driven from the scene.

June 14, 11:55 p.m.: The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one-vehicle accident that happened in Schleswig. Jackson Gerald Huebert, 19, of Schleswig, was driving a red 2016 Ford F150 pickup north on Highway 59 in Schleswig at Cedar Street when the pickup hit a manhole; the manhole cover was off and was in the southbound lane. The pickup sustained disabling damage to the rear axle. Damage was estimated at $1,500.

June 16, 1:10 a.m.: Dylan Parker Wood, 18, of Denison, was charged with interference with official acts – bodily injury.

June 16, 2:33 a.m.: The Iowa State Patrol investigated a single-vehicle accident that happened one-eighth mile south of F Avenue on Highway 59. Victor Rafael Eugenio, 24, of Schleswig, was driving a 2008 Ford F350 north on Highway 59 and was witnessed driving recklessly with another vehicle. Eugenio’s vehicle went off the east side of the roadway, re-entered the roadway, went out of control, left the roadway again and rolled. Eugenio was ejected and injured. He was not wearing a seatbelt. He was transported to Crawford County Memorial Hospital by Crawford County Ambulance.

June 19, 1:53 a.m.: Juan Carlos Chino, 19, of Denison, was arrested and charged with public intoxication, possession/purchase of alcohol by a person 18/19/20 – 1st offense, and interference with official acts.
