Quilt presentation part of Memorial Day services in Denison

Quilts of Valor will be presented to 10 veterans as part of Memorial Day Services in Denison on Monday, May 27.

The services will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be at the Crawford County Courthouse lawn. The rain location is Denison High School.

Memorial Day services in Denison are sponsored by Ninus L. Hunt VFW Post #2504 and American Legion Post #8.

The quilt presentation will be conducted by Ann Crawford, Western Iowa State Coordinator for Quilts of Valor Foundation; Neila Arnold, who made the quilts; and Ed and Merlin Arnold.

The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

William Smith, commander, American Legion Post #8, will give the welcome at Monday’s services. Pastor Pedro Lopez with Amigos en Cristo Lutheran Church will have the invocation and benediction, and Cindy Barroso, winner of the American Legion Post fifth-grade flag essay contest, will read her essay.

Members of the Denison Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, the Legion and VFW and the Denison High School band will present other parts of the services.

To see a full order of services, see the advertisement in today’s Denison Free Press.

Following the Memorial Day Services, the Denison Kiwanis Club will serve pork loin sandwiches for a free-will donation. Proceeds will go to the Crawford County Wellness Center project.
