Denison Job Corps campus partners with City of Denison to provide internship opportunities

The Denison Job Corps campus announced a new partnership with the City of Denison aimed at providing valuable real-world internship opportunities for students. This collaboration comes as a significant step forward for both institutions, offering students hands-on experience in various sectors including parks and recreation, city maintenance, clerical work and more.

The partnership is particularly timely with the recent passing of the bipartisan Infrastructure bill, which has spurred numerous infrastructure projects across the city. Denison Job Corps students will have the opportunity to contribute to these projects, gaining practical skills and knowledge that align with current industry demands.

"This partnership with the City of Denison marks a pivotal moment for our campus and our students," said Paul Williams, director of Denison Job Corps. "By engaging in real-world projects and working alongside professionals in diverse fields, our students will not only enhance their technical skills but also develop invaluable workplace readiness."

Jessica Garcia, city manager of Denison, said, "We are thrilled to welcome Denison Job Corps students into our workforce initiatives. Their participation in infrastructure projects and other city initiatives will not only benefit our community but also provide students with meaningful experiences that can pave the way for successful careers."

One of the key areas of involvement for Denison Job Corps students will be the brownfields projects, where they will contribute to environmental remediation efforts under expert guidance. This hands-on experience in addressing environmental challenges aligns with broader efforts towards sustainability and community revitalization.

The memorandum of understanding that was signed by Denison Job Corps and the City of Denison underscores a shared commitment to empowering youth through education and practical skill development. This partnership is expected to create lasting positive impacts on both the students and the community at large.

Both Denison Job Corps and the City of Denison will highlight the new partnership on Thursday, April 25, at the campus's open house from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Local high school guidance counselors, students and other community leaders and residents will have an opportunity to tour the campus facilities and meet with campus leaders and current students to learn more about Denison Job Corps’ tuition-free dorm-life housing, education and career development services.
