Monarch softball team falls to Atlantic

 
 

The Denison-Schleswig girls’ varsity softball team scored once in the bottom of the first inning in a game on Thursday, May 23, but was held scoreless the rest of the way by Atlantic. Atlantic ended up winning 13-1, with three runs in the first, two each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and four in the seventh.

Monarch pitcher Claire Leinen struck out seven and walked three in six innings. She allowed nine hits. Norah Huebert pitched one inning; she struck out two, walked two and allowed three hits.

The Monarch batters tagged Atlantic’s Zoey Kirchhoff for six hits. Seven Monarchs struck out and no one walked.

Monarch hits came from Huebert, Mayah Slater (2), Ann Wessel, Lauren Herrig and Kamden Bruhn.

 
 

Glenwood takes doubleheader from Monarch girls

 
 

The Denison-Schleswig girls fell 10-0 and 16-0 in two games against Glenwood on Tuesday.

Norah Huebert had the Monarchs only hit in the first game. Glenwood scored its runs on 11 hits.

Claire Leinen was on the mound for the Monarchs. She struck out seven and walked three. Allison Koontz pitched the shutout for Glenwood; she had 12 strikeouts and walked one batter.

In the second game, the Monarchs got their two hits from Claire Leinen and Ann Wessel. Glenwood scored eight runs each in the first and second innings and had 11 hits in the game. The game ended after two and one-half innings.

Norah Huebert struck out two Glenwood batters and walked five. Alyssa Liddick struck out four Monarch batters and walked two.
