Mayor declares September 8-17 Welcoming Week in Denison

 
 

On Tuesday, Denison Mayor Pam Soseman read a proclamation declaring September 8-17 as Welcoming Week in Denison.

The purpose of Welcoming Week is to promote compassion, unity and respect, with a shared vision that all community residents should be valued and protected.

The proclamation states that Denison is home to people of all backgrounds, including those who were not born in the United States but now call Denison home.

 
 
 

It further says that Denison depends on making sue that all feel welcome, and that new residents are a vital part of the community, bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas, starting businesses and contributing to the vibrant diversity that we value.

The proclamation makes this statement: “During Welcoming Week, we invite all of Denison, Iowa, to join the movement of communities nationwide by renewing our commitment to our core American values and by acting in the sprit of welcoming. By working together, we can achieve greater prosperity and make our community the kind of place where diverse people from around the world feel valued and want to put down roots.”
