Denison alumni association gathering

The Denison Alumni Association will host a gathering from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Denison High School Cafeteria for all alumni, or anyone wishing to come, after the Denison-Schleswig homecoming parade on Friday, September 27. Refreshments will be served, and prizes will be awarded. Those who attend the gathering will get a view of the football facilities and the new plaza area.


Change in mass times at St. Rose

Times of mass at St. Rose Parish in Denison have changed. The parish no longer has mass at St. Ann’s in Vail and Sacred Heart in Manilla. Mass times are 5 p.m. on Saturdays at St. Rose of Lima, and Sundays at 8 a.m. at Sacred Heart in Manning and 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima. The 11:30 a.m. mass is in Spanish.

 
 

Hunger Fighters food distribution on August 20

The Crawford County Hunger Fighters food distribution is planned for Tuesday, August 20, at the United Presbyterian Church, 205 North 24th Street in Denison. The drive-through pickup will be from 2:30 to 5 p.m.

New TEFAP forms for the upcoming year will need to be completed starting last month. Families in need of food assistance will verify their income level eligibility with this form which is completed once every year. Forms may be picked up in advance in the bench in front of the Presbyterian Church or filled out that day.

Proxy consent forms, used for picking up another person’s food, will not need to be renewed unless there are changes. 

People are asked to abide by the policy of one allotment of food per household.

Monetary donations made to Crawford County Hunger Fighters may be dropped off at V & H Tire, The Hoffman Agency, or Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Those who would like to volunteer on August 20 may call the Presbyterian Church office at 712-263-4130.


Skarin advances in Iowa State Fair Talent Search

Ava Skarin, 14, of Denison, advanced to the semi-final round in Bill Riley's 64th annual Iowa State Fair Talent Search. She will perform again on Thursday, August 15, Friday, August 16, or Saturday, August 17.

She qualified for the semi-final round based on the performance of her acro dance solo in the preliminary competition at the Iowa State Fair.
