Parading history in Boyer

A long parade wound around Boyer for the community’s 125th anniversary celebrated on Saturday. Pictured, a line of vintage tractors joined the parade. See more photos below and on our Facebook page.

 
 

A big bash for Boyer’s 125th on Saturday

 

Greg Neville with the Odebolt Fire Department fries up eggs for the breakfast sandwiches served in Allen and Sandy Hansohn’s A&S Classics building. The fire department members went through 144 eggs.

 

Hank Wright, of Belton, Missouri, enjoys the pancakes served Saturday morning at the Country Pumpkin. He was with Russ Paulson’s group. Paulson is from Kiron but was born and raised near Boyer.

 

Decked out in honor of Boyer’s railroading roots are Oscar Zimmer with daughter, Charlie Zimmer. Zimmer used to live on a farm west of Boyer.

Peyton Hanke found a convenient way to store candy tossed out at the parade. She put it in a pocket in her father Josh’s cargo shorts.

 

Marcella Schneller takes on the task of judging the 27 pies entered in the pie contest. The pies were auctioned off later. A number of pies sold two or three times, further helping to raise money that will be used to improve the park in Boyer.

 

Joleen Stoelk, of Westside, won first place in the pie contest. Pies were judged on appearance only. She baked this pie Saturday morning, using rhubarb she picked from her garden that morning. Second place went to Carol Quail with acherry pie and third place was won by Brandee and Peyton Schultz with an apple pie.

 

The Boyer River Band entertained Saturday night.

 

Tage Henkelman holds a 1900s print of Boyer that was auctioned off. Another copy of the picture, in a shadow-box frame, sold earlier in the auction.

 

Tom Pauley with Denison Livestock helped raise money for the Boyer Park with his entertaining auctioneering style.

Bentley Boger, age 8, Maverick Boger, age 6, and Jordan Boyens, age 13, all of Kiron, showed their skill in hay bale stacking. 

 

Jacob Boettger and Brett Boettger, both of Denison, won the bags tournament. The tournament was set up by Boettger’s Boards. A large group of spectators watched 11 contestants try for the top place.

 

A plane flew over Boyer twice just prior to the start of the parade.

 

Russell Paulson waves from a hay rack in the parade. He farmed near Boyer and now lives in Kiron.

 

Kids of all ages enjoyed a tractor-drawn ride around town.
