Veterans cloaked with Quilts of Valor

Six veterans were cloaked with a Quilt of Valor during a ceremony at Memorial Day service in Denison on Monday, and two other veterans were recognized but were unable to attend the ceremony.

The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

The quilt presentation was conducted by Ann Crawford, Western Iowa State Coordinator for Quilts of Valor Foundation. Nella Arnold made the quilts, and Ed and Merlin Arnold and Kevin Rohan presented the quilts to the veterans.

The following veterans were honored.

Scott Anderson served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1985 in Mannheim, Germany, in direct support. He is presently a member of the American Legion in Odebolt.

Bud Borcherding served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1970 in Vietnam. He was an engineer.

Gary Bermel served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1968 in Vietnam. He served as a fireman on aircraft carriers.

Bill Ellis served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 in Vietnam. He was a transportation parts specialist.

Melvin Graeve served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970 in Vietnam. He was in transportation.

 
 
 

George Janssen served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1971 in Vietnam. He was an infantry point man.

James Mullin served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1968 in Vietnam. He was a 3rd Class Petty Officer and served on the USS Yorktown. He received four bronze stars for his service in Vietnam

Lowell Gene Neumann served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969 in Vietnam. He was an aerographer’s mate. He received a Presidential Unit Citation and four bronze stars for his service in Vietnam.
